Okay Sis, let's get right to it because ya girl is AMP'D! I've read the Bible on multiple occasions for personal, academic, and professional reasons and it never ceases to amaze me how inexhaustible the Word of God is. So for today's quick pep talk, I want you to open your Bible app (or grab your Bible) and highlight Luke 22:31-32. Yea...we about to get into this Word, honey!
In this particular scene (the Last Supper), Jesus is handing out a few prophecies to his disciples, one of which is for Peter, and Jesus says:
“Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” Luke 22:31-32
Listen, I've read this thang PLENTY of times and even preached it however this new revelation had me in the house taking laps!! You hear me! This is why I had to share it with you because it IMPACTED my life so much in helping me get over some obstacles.
See Peter THOUGHT, his faith in Jesus was good. That it could withstand the test of any obstacle or situation he may come up against. He thought he was the epitome of the "ride or die" friend. Brother man thought his faith was solid. He THOUGHT! Shoot, Jesus even told him "Naw homeboy, you ain't got it like that." (that's the Dani P International Version). Yet and still, Peter continued to think higher than the measure of his faith at that moment.
Now Peter eventually becomes an amazing herald for the Gospel...eventually. After he strengthened to that measure. Let me remind you that
"Even, the strongest Soldier will have a moment of weakness. There's no telling how long that "moment" may be , just know when it has passed you will be stronger as a result.
Let's examine what Jesus was describing when He stated Satan wants to sift you as wheat.
The activity of sifting wheat entails loosening the seed from its protective casing called the chaff, so the seed can be used for its intended purpose. In my divine imagination, Jesus is that protective casing over your seed ...your purpose and faith, that is being nurtured. As you grow closer to Christ so does your purpose and faith however the enemy's desire is to SIFT that situation and cause the purpose of that seed to be null and void. Your casing covers you from negative external influences as well as negative internal influences (hence Jesus calling Peter by his old name, Simon). Mmmhmm, YOU can be that negative influence on yourself.
How sway? I'll tell you how:
When we step out of our protective casing to prove a point to someone. When we just HAVE to tell someone like it is or operate HEAVY in our emotions all of which is done outside our purpose. We set our protection aside, forgetting that embracing our purpose protects our identity (as my Pastor says) and fuels our faith.
But here's the Good news, even when we are sifted out of our coverage for a moment, we're still covered. Hold on, I gotta kick my shoes off, on that statement alone! Friend! Jesus already prayed for you...God already made arrangements for you! Why am I so confident about that statement? Because Jesus told me what will happen in the event this situation happens in my life.
He said, "When you return to me..."
Do you see that? Did you READ that? No sitting around trying to figure out what will happen next, it is right there in black and white. Honey, you'll get back to where you belong...in purpose. Thriving, loving Jesus, hydrated, clear skin, stress-free, curls popping, and operating in purpose.
You have someone who is praying for you. You have someone who has seen the impending sift and started to intercede on your behalf that you will shift back to where you belong. It may not feel like it and it may not look like it but trust me, there are things moving in the background clearing the path for your return. A return saturated with strength and a new level of faith.
The enemy wants to sift you but YOU ARE ABOUT TO SHIFT!
